Message from our Director

A Helping Hand Home Care’s director shares a heartfelt message about Café Joy and the importance of respite support for dementia caregivers.
Director Shares Hope for Dementia Caregivers Through Café Joy

Today, my heart is full.

I was so encouraged to see the announcement that Gainesville-Hall County is opening Café Joy, a respite day program for individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and the families who love and care for them.

This is incredibly personal to me.

Over the past several years, our family has had the privilege of caring for my beloved mother-in-law as she walked the difficult journey of dementia. It was one of the greatest honors of my life, but it was also one of the most physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding experiences our family has ever faced.

One thing I learned is that caregivers need care too.

Sometimes what a caregiver needs most is simply a few hours to rest, run errands, spend time with family, or just breathe without carrying the constant weight of responsibility. That isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Programs like Café Joy don’t just provide a safe, engaging place for someone living with dementia. They provide hope, relief, and encouragement for the caregivers who faithfully show up every single day.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who made this vision possible—from the Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center to the Alzheimer’s Association and every individual who worked behind the scenes to bring this incredible resource to our community.

As someone who has lived this journey personally and now serves families professionally through home care, I know firsthand what a tremendous blessing this will be for so many.

To every caregiver reading this: I see you. Your love matters. Your sacrifice matters. And now, our community is standing beside you.

Thank you, Gainesville– Hall County, for investing in families living with dementia. May Café Joy bring exactly what its name promises—moments of joy, connection, and hope.

I encourage anyone who can to become a volunteer for this amazing organization!
